March 9th, 2017 Lenten Luncheon A Great Gathering

The 2017 Lenten Lunch, which was held at St. Francis de Sales Seminary, was filled to capacity to pay tribute to this year's awardees.  Father Glenn Powers, Director of Formation at the Seminary, welcomed our guests and led everyone in a meal prayer. Guests enjoyed a hearty cobb salad and pretzel roll at their table, then made their way to one of the four soup stations.  Specialty soups offered were:  Grandma Listecki's Chicken Kluski Soup, Chef Nick's Chili, and Wisconsin Beer Cheese Soup, with many guests sampling more than one soup.  As guests were enjoying homemade cookies and coffee near the end of the meal, Archbishop Listecki began the award ceremony.  Please read the biographies of the three recipients, the links provided below.

The Archbishop's Lenten Lunch is truly designed as a lunch time gathering.  The morning began as planned at 11:30 a.m., and the Archbishop gave the final blessing at 12:58 p.m. What a wonderful luncheon paying tribute to true Treasure of the Church!

Organization Recipient - Northwestern Mutual

We sometimes forget the impact that local businesses have on our communities in supporting agencies that impact the poor in our midst.  Northwestern Mutual is committed to Milwaukee neighborhoods and encourages their employees to give through active  volunteer hours to our community. In 2016, Northwestern Mutual employees donated more than 37,000 volunteer hours in over 300 group activities, 24 charity runs, walks and rides, and six in-kind collection projects.

The School Sisters of St. Francis are known for serving the poor and vulnerable, and as an international community, they unite so many others in helping to build a just and peaceful world.  Their commitment to serving the poor, regardless of the personal cost, is exemplified by Sister Margaret Held, who provided health care in rural Mississippi for more than four decades, and in whose memory this award is given.
